Space Derby Notes – By Steve Spaziani
- Kits distributed with construction tips
- Construction guidelines distributed with rules and kits
- Lighter is faster
- 2 rubber bands, keep the others as spares
- Bring spares to race & turn them in at the beginning
- No knotting of the bands inside the ship
- Make sure a small notch is cut in the tail to prevent the anchor from spinning
- Do not glue the anchor in the end
- Graphite on propeller is ok (encouraged, actually)
- Lubricating rubber bands is ok (optional)
- Mixed reviews on this one – liquids said to be better
- Spray on Teflon vs. graphite / moly
- Sand the inside of the ships before gluing them together
- Cut end of holder so it doesn’t protrude too far into the interior
- Sand the end after cutting it so no sharp edges to cut bands
- Glue in the holder securely
- Remove all the mold burrs from the plastic components
- Be sure the propeller assembly is built properly
